Youth thankfully "chow down" on a surprise bowl of rice
Giving the youth a small bowl of rice about 24 hours into the Famine was a planned, yet surprise, move by the youth leaders to get a point across. The youth were not told that they would receive this rice, and were pleasantly and thankfully surprised when they were told they could have a small bowl. Shortly afterwards, the youth were asked how they'd respond if they were given only a small bowl of rice at home for dinner. Most said they'd ask where the rest of the meal was! But the leaders pointed out to them how thankfully they accepted and ate the rice without complaint now that they were hungry. The youth came away with a new understanding of how a simple bowl of rice could make such a difference in the life of a hungry child in need, and how hunger can completely change your point of view.
